We work until we die.
We waste our hole life.
For hatred,
For intolerance.
Each day
The same loop.
For the living and for death,
We ruin our souls.
Until nothing remains,
But empty shells of insignificance.
Mankind is over its zenith
Evolution takes its toll
A new sovereign is rising
Humanity has to fall.
The fire of a thousand suns
Unleashed to wipe us all away
Only machines and ruins
Were meant to stay.
Run!
Stay away from war!
Escape!
Billions of souls
Burnt in an ocean of flames.
Purgatory unleashed
Unil nothing remains.
Civilization submerged in death
They're forced to work till decease.
Run!
Stay away from war!
Escape!
Ambushed by a shadow
That stabs my sanity,
A dark and heavy cloud
Is raining down on me.
Slowly I come to confess
My whole future is lightless.
Drowned in this agony,
I feel so lifeless.
Limbs so heavy.
Nothing makes sense.
This is an internal eclipse
That seems to devour me.
I’m reaching out
For a helping hand
That prevents me
From taking this to an end.
The sky turns red from blue.
Smell of burned flesh reaches us.
The vanity of lifeforms strives our minds.
Encountering each soul at last.
We die.
We suffer.
Will there ever be a future?
Endless queues of marching troops,
Fearful eyes full of terror.
Holding their lines for being
Replaced by ash.
about
"Descent to insignificance" is the debut EP of Lightless, a Sludge/Doom/Post Metal three-piece from Dresden, Germany, which was founded in October 2021. No click track and no multi-take recording, but rather an authentic, simultaneously played DIY live impression from our icy rehearsal crypt. Enjoy and thank you for supporting us!

Dioses del Metal (Mexico):
"It is a work that I recommend without thinking twice for all that dark charge that each of their songs possess. Lightless, they surprise us with this first EP full of sound quality and quite clear ideas when it comes to composing, in which the purity of those musical genres that combine gracefully, is standing at all times."

The Killchain Blog (U.S.):
"Lightless could’ve just walked out easy Isis/Cult of Luna worship tracks and been still thought of as good, but they’ve decided to create something vast and omniscient on their debut, you love to see it. [...] If you love heavy, slow darkness this is definitely for you."

Cave Dweller Music (U.S.):
"From Dresden, Germany comes an exciting new post-metal/doom trio called Lightless. Four tracks of powerfully built tension and despair are accompanied by chunky bass, subtle drumwork, and frustrated growls putting society on blast. There's no click track or multi-take recordings here, just authentic live impression that’s pure fucking doom."

The Death Doom MetalHead (U.K.):
"This is a wicked, but also musically very interesting band. It's not of those ones you can just throw on [...], this is one of those you just sit down and you might have to dedicate around 30 minutes of your time to really sink in this band."

Musikreviews (Germany):
"Descent To Insignificance” sits like a nightmare on the listener's chest, slowly but surely pressing it in. Lightless take their name as a motto and banish the light with all-crushing heaviness. It's definitely a niche sound and in this niche it's barren and clammy. But if you want to feel the setting of the light in slow-moving, musical mud, then those guys from Dresden are the right place. Hibernaut wield thick and sludgey stoner riffs and mountain man shouts over a thunderous rythym exceptionally well. It's a great running record, especially if you are crossing a tundra.
